Lithium-ion (li-ion) batteries have been used commercially for over 20 years in various applications. Most UPSs relied on valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries, also known as sealed lead-acid batteries.While they did the job, Lithium Ion or Li-ion offers improvements in a number of areas.   Why then have they not been commonly adopted as batteries for single-phase UPSs?

This paper explains  brief overview of li-ion batteries in comparison to VRLA batteries for single phase UPS applications and the realm of possibility for where UPSs based on Li-ion batteries may be used, which is a good thing for any company with an expanding digital footprint.
